Truly wonderful...

My partner and I loved our night stay at Goose Cottage. We lit the hot tub and watched the stars at night. Truly wonderful.

Solitude and tranquility...

My longing was for solitude and tranquility. I was able to completely plug out from society, technology and other responsibilities and plug in to nature, rest and recreation. The hosts were helpful and kind, even offering gifts of fresh apricots and locally baked bread. It felt like a sanctuary and I am thankful for a comfortable, pleasurable stay.

Highlight of our holiday...

Our stay at Goose House Cottage has been the highlight of our local holiday.  We have absolutely loved what you and Peter have done here.  It’s the most special location.  Pure nature abounds, with no town lights or human activity in sight.  The flora and fauna is so magical.  We love the geese too!  The hot tub is a delight.  You have a very special place here – huge congratulations!

Tranquil and gorgeous gem...

The most tranquil and gorgeous gem we’ve visited in a very long time! We booked Goose House for our wedding anniversary weekend and it was the perfect choice. Daniel’s kraal is an absolute gem and a must-visit. Thank you Celia and Peter for your kind and generous hospitality. We can’t wait to return.

Goose House Cottage

The Perfect Hideaway

This quaint one-bedroomed self-catered old labourer’s cottage has been renovated into a wonderful well equipped home and is set in its own private corner of the property. It is fully equipped with a bathroom en-suite, a small lounge, kitchen with log stove to warm up the house on chilly winter nights. The front stoep is a great spot for cool afternoon teas and the back stoep overlooks a beautiful natural karoo garden complete with braai area, outdoor shower and hot tub to either just cool down or enjoy a warm tub whilst sipping on a good local port or champagne. This private secluded area is only frequented by klipspringers, riverine rabbit and a myriad of birds, so your privacy is ensured.

For the energetic, climb one of the many hills around the cottage, or bring your mountain bikes and discover many of the mountain passes or rides in the area. Expect a visit from the geese to check on what snacks you may have on offer.

Pre-book a guided botanical walk to experience this lush succulent and fynbos wonderland with over 1200 species  recorded in the region and admire the vibrant wild flowers or bring your binoculars to identify over 185 species of birds found in this region.

The night sky is brilliant and spectacular and certainly well worth enjoying by spreading blankets out on the front lawn and enjoying this spectacular show.

For winter visits, the woodburning fireplace in the old kombuis / eetkamer comes to life to warm the entire home whilst you cook up a hearty Karoo meal on the gas stove. If you would like a hamper put together for you filled with local Klein Karoo produce, notify us at time of booking.

The town of Calitzdorp is a mere 10 minute drive (8kms) from the farm and offers many delights from port & wine tasting at one of the many farms, to beautiful, locally made ceramics to delicious coffees and homemade pies at the scattering of quaint and pretty restaurants. Vibrant bursts of bougainvillea and blooming roses add splashes of colour to the old Victorian styled streets, while the surrounding vineyards provide a picturesque backdrop. The Museum is well worth a visit. There are a number of great attractions to Calitzdorp throughout the year.  From family fruit picking in season – November/December (apricots and peaches) and February (grapes).

The Red Stone Hills Mountain Bike and Trail Running event in May, the Calitzdorp Expressed Cape Ruby Festival in June, to “Art on Track” in August. For budding botanists the Succulent Festival in September is an internationally acclaimed event with over 1600 recorded species of succulents. A biodiversity hotspot!
