THE HISTORY BEHIND

DANIELSKRAAL FARM

The farmhouse itself is enchanting and dates back to 1836. It was restored by the current owners in 2010 and the house has been a private escape ever since. The farm now includes an outside shower, barn doors opening onto the garden, a gracious veranda for outdoor entertaining and lazy, summer afternoons under the fans.

ACCOMODATION

The house has 4 bedrooms.

The main bedroom is en-suite with a private veranda overlooking the herb garden. There is an additional annexe with a luxury camp bed for an extra person if your child wants to be close to you or you want to have your baby close to you. There is a camp cot available too.

The pink bedroom is deep inside the house and is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Next door is a bathroom with a long, luxurious bath and a view of the vineyards.

The children’s room includes 2 twin beds and a bunk bed and can sleep 4 children or adults.

The white room was recently built and boasts views of the swimming pool and vineyard. It is en-suite and has a shower and a bath. It has French doors opening out into the garden and overlooks the pool and the vineyards and distant Swartberg mountains.

ACTIVITIES

There are a number of physical activities to do from swimming, mountain climbing, long walks, cycles or runs. The verdant green lawn in front of the house is the ideal place to play badminton, cricket or boules.

If you are a nature lover, explore the fossils in the mountains, identify a myriad of succulents indigenous to the Klein Karoo, admire the vibrant wild flowers or bring your binoculars to identify over 100 species of birds.

If it’s winter, start a roaring fire in the lounge, while nestling into the comfy couches and choosing a book or playing a board game. The dining room can seat 8 and is warm and intimate.

The town of Calitzdorp is a mere 10 minute drive from the farm and offers many delights from Port & Wine Tasting at Boplaas or de Krans to beautiful, locally made ceramics to delicious coffees and homemade pies at the scattering of quaint and pretty restaurants. The town is often adorned in bright pops of bougainvillea of all colours and blooming roses that surround the neighbouring vineyards.
